Standard ToolBar Menu & How to Customize it in MT4 Platform
Standard Tool-Bar on the MT4 is shown/illustrated below:
Before explaining how to use each tool listed on this standard tool-bar, let us ensure all the available buttons are added to it by customizing it:
- Right-Click the tool-bar customize button to the left like as illustrated and shown below

On the trading software, the standard tool bar now looks like:
Explanation of Each Tool on the Standard Toolbar
1: Opens a chart in MetaTrader 4 and a stock index trader can specify which type of trading chart to open by clicking drop down arrow just next to its icon.
2: Profile - can be used to load a saved profile or to save a new profile: these options are provided as a sub-menu from the drop-down arrow.
3: Opening and closing market watch window panel: marketwatch displays the trading quote trading prices for chosen instruments.
4: Data window opens & closes and it displays price data & also the other data like indicator's data.
5: Navigator Short Cut, navigator displays Trading Account data, indicators, scripts & Expert Advisors data.
6: Terminal panel shortcut, displays the transactions opened by a indices trader - shows open trades, balance, account equity, transaction history, news, Expert Advisors(EAs) tab, signals tab and trade alerts tab.
7: Strategy tester opens the Strategy Tester & traders can test their Expert Advisors(EAs) on this Simulator environment.
8: Places a new trade order by opening a pop-up window panel where as a stock index trader you as a trader can specify the instrument to buy, the amount to trade, & if the order will be a market order or set as a pending stock trade order.
9: MetaEditor opens the Meta-Editor environment where a trader can add or program an Expert Advisor(EA) or a new indicator in this MetaEditor Environment.
10: Help, if you don't know something on MT4 click on this and point on any MetaTrader 4 object and get an explanation.
11: Options settings for editing MetaTrader 4 options that are used by your platform, these settings are the server settings & Expert Advisors settings found under main navigation menu on tools menu, options sub menu.
12: Full screen option for setting the trading chart to full screen option, Short-cut is Key-board Key 'F11'
13: Print Chart
14: Print Preview
15: Expert Advisors - activates and deactivating EAs on a chart, clicking on this button changes color from green to red, green color means EA is allowed, red means Expert Advisor(EA) execution not allowed.
Remove Buttons
As a trader you will not require all these buttons and you as a trader can hide some of them by clicking customize (shown above), then choose and select some of the items to the right side window and then choose and select hide.
Remove the above tools by clicking on them and clicking remove button.
